Import YNAB to Nethaven

How to export your YNAB budget and import accounts, categories, transactions, and monthly budget history into Nethaven.

In YNAB, open the budget you want to move, choose Budget → Export budget, and keep the downloaded .zip unchanged. In Nethaven, start the YNAB import wizard and upload that original file. The preview shows accounts, categories, transactions, budget months, balance warnings, and budget reconciliation before anything is imported.
Nethaven imports accounts, categories, transactions, and full monthly budget allocation history. It does not import loan payoff details, YNAB targets or goals, or scheduled transactions. Loan payoff details require originalAmount and startDate, and the YNAB export supplies neither, so Nethaven never guesses those values.
If the upload fails or the preview looks wrong, first check that you uploaded the YNAB Budget export, not a bank CSV, report export, or spreadsheet-modified file. If your locale uses comma decimals, upload the original export instead of a CSV opened and resaved by spreadsheet software. If balances do not match, stop at the preview and review the warning rows before confirming.

1

Where do I find the importer?

Open **Settings > Import data** from the dashboard sidebar. If a dashboard import prompt appears, it opens the same import flow.

2

How do I get the YNAB export file?

In YNAB, open the budget you want to move, choose Budget > Export budget, and keep the downloaded .zip unchanged. Upload the original YNAB Budget export .zip when possible, not a bank CSV, screenshot, report export, or spreadsheet-edited copy.

3

What should I check before confirming?

Review the counts, per-account reconstructed balances, budget reconciliation line, and warnings before committing. YNAB exports monthly budget allocation history, so Nethaven can show budget months in the review. YNAB includes account data, but you should still compare each reconstructed balance before confirming. Review transfer warnings before confirming, especially if the source file was edited.

4

What does Replace my starter data do?

It deletes onboarding starter data before applying the import. Leave it off if you want to keep accounts, categories, transactions, budgets, goals, or other setup items you already created manually.

5

What should I do if balances look wrong?

Correct the account balance after import, then inspect transfers and duplicate-looking rows. Flat CSV balances often differ because the file contains activity but no opening balance, and loan payoff details never transfer because the exports do not contain them.
