Leaving Rocket Money: What Actually Transfers

People arrive at Rocket Money to cancel things. That is the job it does well, and for a lot of users it is the only job they ever asked it to do. The problem shows up later, when the recurring charges are under control and the question becomes what the rest of the money is doing. A cancellation tool is not a balance sheet, and its budgeting features were never the main event.

Moving out means bringing the transaction history with you, which Nethaven does through a dedicated Rocket Money adapter. Upload the CSV and it is recognized by its headers, no mapping step. The more interesting part is what happens to your subscription list, because that does not come across as a list at all.

How do I export from Rocket Money?

Rocket Money lists data export as a Premium feature. On web, open Transactions > Export and choose filters. On mobile, use Transactions > menu > CSV Download, then Export. The file arrives through an emailed link that must be downloaded on desktop or laptop. Follow Rocket Money's export instructions.

Nethaven's adapter accepts Date, Account or Account Name, a supported name or description field, Amount, and optional category and note fields. Rocket Money's public export instructions do not specify the complete CSV schema or amount-sign convention. Why does the Original Statement column matter?

If your file contains Original Statement, Nethaven can carry that text into notes. A raw billing descriptor can help identify a charge after import. The field is optional, and the public Rocket Money export instructions do not promise that column in every export.

Nethaven carries that text into the note field, so once your history is imported you can search it for the descriptors Rocket Money was matching against internally. That is the practical way to rebuild your subscription list rather than retyping it from memory.

What transfers from Rocket Money?

• Accounts, built from the account column.
• Transactions, one per row.
• Categories, as Rocket Money assigned them.
• Notes and original statement text, when those fields are present.

What stays behind is everything Rocket Money kept outside the transaction file: opening balances, budget history, your tracked subscription list, any negotiation history, and transfer links. Loan payoff details do not transfer either, since payoff tracking needs an original amount and start date the export does not contain.

How do I rebuild my subscription list?

Import the history first, then work from it rather than from memory. Recurring charges are visible in the imported transactions as the same amount hitting the same merchant on a monthly or annual cadence, and the original statement text catches the ones whose display name changed.

Why are my balances wrong after import?

The export has transactions but no opening balance, so each account starts at zero and its balance becomes the sum of imported activity. Nethaven flags every account this affects on the preview.

Open accounts after the import and set the real current balance once. The history behind it is correct, only the starting point was missing.

What should I check before confirming?

1. Transaction, account, and category counts.
2. Per-account balances, all of which need correcting.
3. Inferred transfers. Rocket Money does not mark transfer links, so Nethaven pairs same-day, opposite-sign amounts across accounts and warns on each guess. Card payments a day apart can import as two ordinary rows.
4. Guessed account types, inferred from the account name because the export does not record them.
5. Whether “Replace my starter data” should be on, which clears onboarding sample data before the import is applied.

What should I set up after the import?

Correct balances, fix account types, merge the transfers that came in as two rows, then rebuild subscriptions from the imported history. After that, the thing Rocket Money never gave you is worth setting up: a full picture, with portfolio tracking and debt and goals next to the recurring spend rather than separate from it.
